Practical profile

Thanks to the interdisciplinary nature of the Business English study programme, you will become fluent in specialised English and acquire knowledge of economic and legal mechanisms in the context of globalisation and the intensification of international economic and trade contacts. You will also have the opportunity to learn how to use modern translation technologies (CAT tools) and study a second foreign language (German).

The goal of the Business English study programme is to provide students with a general philological background in linguistics, cultural studies, specialised economic and legal terminology, as well as in economic and legal issues. You will attend practical English classes in which you will develop your fluency and linguistic skills, and you will learn about cultural, economic, trade and business management issues in business and culture-oriented courses. Linguistic and specialised economic courses, as well as practical training in companies, will help you prepare to become a specialist in business translation. Various practical translation exercises and specialist practical training will allow you to later work as a specialist in business communication and as a translator.

You will

  • become fluent in both general and specialised English
  • learn to translate general and specialised texts, using modern translation technologies (CAT tools)
  • learn how to solve practical problems in intercultural communication in business
  • learn to distinguish and define basic legal, economic and business concepts
  • learn a second foreign language (German)

You will find employment in

  • companies operating in the international market or trading with foreign countries
  • internationally oriented public administration units
  • travel agencies, hotels and tourist organisations
  • production, trade and service companies cooperating with foreign partners
  • European Union institutions
  • marketing, logistics, customer service departments in international companies with a culturally diverse character
  • in advertising and public relations agencies.

However, if you are not interested in working in the business sector, an alternative would be to take up employment in cultural institutions or translation agencies. The skills you acquire during your studies will make you a desirable graduate for future employers and you will be able to tailor your career path to your expectations and needs.

  • To ensure that you develop the practical skills that will be useful in your future career, the Business English study programme has been prepared in cooperation with the Business Representatives Advisory Council of the Faculty of Management, which ensures that the content of the course corresponds to current market requirements.
